I would only add that as painful as it is, this layoff is small potatoes compared to the 180,000 or so people that IBM shed during the late 80's and early 90's. I would say there is a good chance that morale was much worse at IBM, in addition to the fact that many let go were long term stockholders, and when they were let go the stock had tanked. The point is, the layoff and morale really mattered very little from that point forward, as IBM's stock price went from 40 to 240 (pre-split) today....

One interesting point - IBM started to emphasize services during the turnaround, which also appears to be a centerpiece in CPQ's strategy going forward....
