I just got back from the "VLSI Symposium" and a number of interesting
things occurred ... 1) Intel is continuing to extend its lead in device/FET
performance. 2) Intel's .18um process is going well and .13um will start
in earnest very soon. 3) Everyone (except IBM) agreed that Low K is much
more important than Cu damascene for improving CPU performance. I still
believe this is not needed until the .13um node.

Overall it was a good conference, but attendance was down due to the Asian
crisis and some US companies posting "poor"results.
