(PCWeek Article on MSFT's plan to "embrace and demolish" Java)

Windows World! Windows World! Party On, Excellent!!! Woo,woo,woo....

Of course, you and this article are right, and the only counter to the msft strategy is "just say no". Reg was onto the Grand Plan early on, and I have my suspicions that Sal is a paid disinformationalist with his many "ActiveX is just as open as Java" postings. (just kidding, Sal) The thing is, there is no subtlety in any of Microsoft's strategies. It's fine for the MSFT camp followers here to cheer them on. If you own MSFT, you want them to win. But if anyone else can't see through this strategy and gets burned, they deserve it.

Reg goaded me into posting way to much verbiage on this last Friday, so I'll try to be brief here. Microsoft wants to use its Windows desktop monopoly to subvert and dominate the internet. Anyone who uses ActiveX and the new "extended" MVM is aiding and abetting them. If you're willing to accept Windows World, and require every information appliance of the future to run some Windows variant, fine. Sorry, I find the Windows API to be an inappropriate interoperability standard for the networked computing world of the future. The current internet standards work fine in a diverse computing universe, and why this should be given up for Microsoft's convenience is beyond me.

Maybe I'm dim and stating what everyone realizes already. If so, someone clue me in and I'll shut up.

Cheers, Dan.
