The thrust of JAVA extends well beyond IBM. Platform independence in not only an interesting theory, but is rapidly becoming a necessity, and for a variety of reasons. Yet, at this stage of JAVA's development, like MSFT, IBM has both the ability and the motive to pollute JAVA. It would be foolish to do so.
