Inflation is dead:
<<H O U S T O N, June 13 - Continental Airlines pilots have approved a five-year contract that both sides say will bring pay and benefits up to industry standards while offering job security in an alliance with Northwest Airlines.
.....
Union officials said the pact protects job security, improves salaries, vacation time and profit sharing and gives pilots one of the best pension programs in the industry. "We reached our goal in less than 15 months in an industry where contract negotiations often drag on for years," said Len Nikolai, president of the Independent Association of Continental Pilots.
About 4,000 pilots are covered under the contract. Pilots spokesman Ray Abernathy said the average pay increase amounts to 45 percent over the next three years, ending 16 years of concessions made by the union to allow the company to avoid going out of business during the rocky 1980s. Under the deal, a 16-year veteran captain who earns $120,000 now will make about $180,000 in three years>>
