Techie, check the number of CPU's shipped, not % capacity. If you don't you'll get a very distorted view. Anyhow, if your thesis is correct why is it that Dell's gross margin actually increased this past quarter?

I do agree with you about the accelerating decrease in the computer prices recently, but I strongly disagree with you concerning the reasons or your forecast that this is a trend. Much of the slide can be traced back to Asian economic problems. But these won't last forever. This isn't a result of "comoditization" of the industry. It is the result of the manufacturers of parts dumping their inventories in order to stay solvent. Bear in mind Geoff Nunn's excellent post on value added. You need to fully understand that concept to make sense of what's happening in the marketplace. Reread that post and then read the Harvard Business Review article and I think you will begin to appreciate what Dell has accomplished.
