Paul,

The switch to socket 7 had a clear technical purpose - to increase memory bandwidth. In contrast, the only reasons for Intel to switch to slot 1 in single processor systems are to knock out AMD and to increase profit margins on the motherboard.

Question for the day: Compare Winstone scores on a socket 7 MII vs. a slot 1 PII at the same megahertz. Who wins (by a wide margin?)
