Not quite true. That may be what the high school textbooks say, but if you really research it you'll find that it was mostly a trade war and highly political. It was also a war fought over state rights (sovereignty) versus federalism. Plus, the war almost didn't occur, except for an unfortunate incident involving a Union General. The issue of slavery was involved to some extant, but was not the primary cause of the war.

You always like research, so I would point you back to history books written before 1880.
