Meathead, the point that I was trying (apparently unsuccessfully) is that Dell successfully leverages the R&D efforts of companies like Intel. I did not mean to dismiss what Dell does, but I believe that the fact that it can spend such a small amount (relative to sales) is one of its strengths. I was under the impression that the bulk of R&D went for process improvements rather than computer design. Am I incorrect in that impression?
