Thanks for the reply, Where are you at? I lived in Meguro-ku and Shinagawa-ku most of the time I was in Tokyo. Yes, when I first visited Japan in the early 70's I started to think Japan was living in the future...Things that they were dealing with...a.k.a. over-crowding, very high prices..etc. where things that many of the western countries hadn't experienced but would soon. I still feel this is the case.

My biggest complaint with the Japanese culture is they are afraid to express themselves in public. I remember visiting my wife's university (Hitotsubashi)...when she was a student there and sitting in a classroom and watching the students just take notes and NO ONE asked any question. .."You never question the sensai" ?? I learned this was the norm!!! This is the same with the political system. You realize it is very corrupt but can complain. I always bothered me and now more than ever.

My basic feeling right now is the Japanese system, can actually turn-around rather quickly once the consumer feels comfortable with the economic / political system and they begin to spend money again.

Since there still isn't panic in Japan it will be awhile. I get a live feed of N.H.K. here via sat. and it is strange with all that is happening the yen / stock market is actually the third story in the news. First the World Cup then some political news then the economic picture. That is a perfect barometer to what is the real concerns in Japan????
