I agree, it was the most sick feeling i have ever had with a sporting match in my life that night. 90,000 people packed the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) which is also the home of the AFL (Australian Football League) Aussie Rules Football.

90,000 crowds are normal for an AFL games but that was an amazing night to see such great support for the Australian team.

Something of interest from that game was that you may haven't heard was that after our second goal a guy who had been making protests around major sporting event for the past few months ran onto the ground and ripped the netting of the Australian goal and in turn we had that 6 or 7 minute delay while the official's re-attached the netting to the uprights.

I am not making excuse's but our teams momentum was stopped dead with that break and after that Iran took full advantage a score 2 very quick goals to tie the game.

Score : 2-2

Iran won their way into the World Cup on the away goal percentage rule which was a very upsetting deal for all Aussie let me tell you.

I felt sick in the stomach for about a week after that game just thinking what could of been. That is what makes the Cup so special as it really does bring together a country like no other sporting event.

Very Special. I personally would take soccer over [AFL] anyday and i hope that we here in Melbourne win the right to host the World Cup in 2002.

Cheers,

Jay
