Hi Victor

been lurking for a while, thread has been pretty quiet.

Some more input re back-end loading of quarters. What Paul is saying re bonuses and pressure from sales managers is true. There is another factor that you also need to take into account when a big chunk of your business goes through distribution...

The Distributor gets familiar with their suppliers needing numbers at then end of the quarter and hold out for good deals. This often happens right up to the last couple of days of a quarter, the pressure is tremendous. (I'm ex 3Com by the way and have many friends in the industry.)

Therefore I think we will always see some serious back-end loading with BAY and COMS. The secret is not to stuff your channel with inventory - COMS did it and were in serious trouble because of it. I understand from my sources that BAY are committed to a sensible inventory strategy and did not resort to any channel stuffing at the end of last Q.

Re an acquisition, I like your thoughts about a non-US company getting a step up into the US market - have to think about that. How close are Cisco and Alcatel in reality - that's what i can't figure.

anyway - end of rambling
