I thought about exactly the same strategy...I imagine there are only a tiny fraction of us who are sitting on a profit. You can establish your loss, then buy into a similar company in the same business (that is if you believe this business will improve going forward). I did this years back, I believe swapping out of one disk drive maker, establishing my loss, and buying into another. Just a thought.
