Banning the countries of origin of these hooligans from the World Cup wouldn't really solve the problem, although I understand your anger. These idiots certainly do ruin what should be a festive, sporting atmosphere. Ironic that the worst hooligans come from England, where "sporting" behavior was once so highly regarded. I feel sorry for other British supporters, who are being disgraced by a minority of aggressive drunken animals. England is not to blame; the hooligans are. I do, however, fault the French and British police for not seeing this coming. There should have been a far greater police presence in the Old Port. What a shame.

Events such as these are why so many people who otherwise love football do not attend games in person - it can be just too dangerous for law-abiding citizens to be confronted with this kind of senseless rampage. The Italians in 1990 understood only too well how to handle these hooligans - they shipped off England and the Netherlands to the island of Cagliari! It is a real tragedy that the reputations of nations can be besmirched by a violent, criminal minority. I agree - lock them up and throw away the key. And how about a law mandating a minimum 2-year prison sentence (without parole, of course) for hooliganism, enforced by the European Community? Now THAT would send the message loud and clear that HOOLIGANISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.
