Nexmed Shares Gain as Viagra Boosts Hope for Its Similar Drug

Robbinsville, New Jersey, June 14 (Bloomberg) -- Since
Pfizer Inc's Viagra soared to popularity in mid-April, shares in
Nexmed Inc., a small pharmaceutical company working on a similar
anti-impotence drug, have risen 135 percent, the New Jersey Star-
Ledger reported. Though Nexmed's topical creams for sexual
dysfunction are in early testing stages and the company has never
turned a profit, Nexmed's market capitalization is now $23
million, up from $10 million just two months ago. A Nexmed
spokeswoman said the company expects the approval process for its
Alprox-TD cream to take at least three years, the Star-Ledger
said.

Venezuela is taking steps to attack illegal sales of Viagra
as demand surges with the new drug being regarded as this year's
ideal Father's Day gift, according to a Venezuelan newspaper.
