Here are some stats to chew on. eric West Virginia is the largest producer of oil and natural gas east of the Mississippi River. West Virginia ranks 33rd in the nation for oil production and 11th in the nation for natural gas production. More than 15,000 West Virginians are employed by the oil and natural gas industry. Natural gas is produced in 49 out of West Virginia's 55 counties, through approximately 35,000 wells located throughout the state. West Virginia is the only state in the northeastern part of the country that produces more natural gas than it uses WVONGA Members own and operate over fifteen thousand miles of pipeline in the state of West Virginia. This pipeline is used for the transportation of oil and natural gas to homes and businesses throughout the country. If you put this pipeline end to end, it would encircle the earth more than two times. WVONGA Members own and operate over 158 compressor stations in West Virginia. These compressor stations are used to regulate the flow of oil and natural gas as they make their way through the system. The compressor stations develop over 400,000 horsepower to accomplish this task, this is the equivalent of almost 2000 full size pickup trucks driving full speed down the interstate. 2000 pickup trucks would fill a football field averaging 18 trucks deep and 8 trucks wide.
