Gottfried, I think Japan is also facing an intrinsic demographic problem that restrain their natural growth, the population is shrinking and aging and they do not believe in any emigration. They had a big growth period (with the rest of the world) bringing up the standard of living of the population to an "acceptable" level. IMHO, the only way out of their predicament (since the rest of the world will not let them for ever export themselves out of stagnation) is to mobilize the Japanese to achieve an even higher standard of living.

I will not go into the five main action points I have mentioned on the Asia thread earlier today, but I am sure they will sooner or later find their way. They may not even have to actually tell the world how badly they "screwed up", they could if they wanted, make it a "National Priority" and with the type of "pseudo patriotism" still existing in Japan, they could pull it off.
