Beer bottle crisis brewing!
Friday June 12 5:24 PM EDT

VANCOUVER (Reuters) - British Columbia's beer makers see a bottle
shortage brewing and are urging loyal drinkers to check their garages
for empties.

The Western Brewers Association said on Friday it planned to buy
newspaper ads this weekend warning that the region's breweries are
running "perilously" short of returnable glass bottles as warm weather
approaches.

"Clean out your garage, your closet, the corner of your basement, and
wherever else you store your empties and get them back to your
authorized brewers outlet for a full refund," executive director Greg
D'Avignon exhorted in a statement to the media.

The association said a warmer than expected spring has left the
breweries with about one million fewer refillable glass bottles than
they would like on hand at this time of year.

Up to 95 percent of glass bottles used by the beer makers are recycled
in Western Canada and some breweries clean and reuse bottles up to 15
times, according to D'Avignon.
