H,

I subscribe to Businessweek so will read the press. Bezos is excellent at PR. I have been saying that right along. He gets his name and the name of Amazon out into publications and TV programs as free publicity. He slants their approach well.

<Or it can mean using the Internet's unique ability to provide personalized service, the way
1-800-Flowers Inc. will send you an E-mail reminder of your wife's birthday, or
Amazon.com Inc. will recommend a book you might like. ''The pattern of all the successful
Internet companies is that they're doing things that can only be done online,'' says Jeffrey P.
Bezos, chief executive of Amazon.

This type of marketing has been done in the jewelry business for a long time. We use a computer and send "hint hint" cards when birthdays or anniversaries are coming. The net is not necessary for that.

I would have to go back and see where I wrote Amazon is a joke but I will admiy is is not a joke without even looking. Revenues have been strong.

Glenn
