European shares plummet as Asian grip tightens
Monday June 15, 7:36 am Eastern Time

FRANKFURT, June 15 (Reuters) - Asia's worsening financial crisis
rocked European shares on Monday when analysts warned that benchmark
indices across Europe could be vulnerable to further falls.

Germany's DAX index of 30 blue-chip shares led the declines, falling
more than 2.5 percent. France's CAC-40, Italy's Mibtel, and Spain's
Ibex-35 indices all fell two percent or more.

''This is the kind of environment where confidence is threadbare and
there could be more downside,'' said David McBain, a strategist at BT
Alex Brown.

''Clearly there's a lot of uncertainty about prospects for the Asian
markets, which is feeding through to international markets generally.
Markets are concerned about prospects for the global economy,'' he
said.
