Ong,
At this time, I do not think these 9-gig dirves contain MR heads; however, I could be wrong. I have place a call to my local DEC configuration analyst to ask this very question. As far as he knew he did not think that this drive was using MR technology, but to find out for sure, he will be checking with the StorageWorks systems division of DEC on this issue. Additionally, during our conversation, I did find out that IBM released as 9-gig drive and it was recalled shortly after its release for the same reason (head-to-media crashing). Here again, I do not know if the IBM 9-gig drive uses MR technology, but it does stand to reason if anyone was going to use MR, it would be IBM. Currently, the largest DEC StorageWorks RAID drive available is 4.3-gig. The move 9-gig is certantly a large jump. I will post when I find more info.

Forrest
