New Technologies from Cayenne Software Create an Unbeatable and Complete Suite of Tools for Model-Driven Systems Development

Cayenne is Unique in its Ability to Provide Concurrent, Multi-User Access to Data Models Using Either Object-Oriented, Process or Data-Driven Programming Approaches

BEDFORD, Mass., June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Cayenne Software (Nasdaq: CAYN - news) today announced BusinessTeam Suite, the Company's next generation of process and data modeling tools. Enterprises using these tools can dramatically improve their software development and integration initiatives. Individually, the tools boost productivity. Collectively, they support the complete model- driven development lifecycle.

Cayenne's mission is to provide tools for systems engineers to transform key business knowledge into databases and applications that support corporate operations. Cayenne's unique philosophy is to keep the business models separate from -- but seamlessly synchronized with -- the physical implementations of systems technology. This separation reflects the division of labor between business managers and IS departments -- providing Cayenne's customers with the flexibility to move quickly to change their business and adopt new technologies by reusing their active models. It is easier and more precise to change a model -- and stimulate the automatic re-deployment of an application -- than to make significant, costly changes at the code or database level.

The BusinessTeam Suite is composed of three products: BusinessTeam, ProcessTeam and DataTeam. Each functions both independently and as an integrated Suite. The Suite can support enterprise development teams building critical production systems and integrating components. Each product uses models to visualize different aspects of the development process providing business managers and developers with an excellent communication tool.

Companies looking to transform their business knowledge into production databases and software systems can now use any -- or all -- of the fully integrated products in the BusinessTeam Suite:

-- BusinessTeam -- the Suite's unique, flagship product -- designs the
business solution by building data, process and logical models that
retain the models' validity regardless of technology changes;
BusinessTeam creates an actionable blueprint of business processes.

-- ProcessTeam -- a business process visualization tool -- allows
companies to analyze their business by defining "as-is" and "to-be"
models of their business processes and workflow, gain consensus among
business executives, and automatically communicate these processes and
inter-organizational dependencies to the systems developers who will
create the software that supports the business. Models from
ProcessTeam can be fed into BusinessTeam models, providing the
important connection between the business and its supporting systems.

-- DataTeam -- provides the tools to allow database administrators to
design and implement the physical databases that may flow from the
business models created by BusinessTeam. DataTeam works with over 30
databases and is a standalone solution in and of itself.

The BusinessTeam Suite now joins Cayenne's Object-Oriented Modeling tool, ObjectTeam, with integration to an active repository -- the Cayenne Model Manager. The Model Manager allows collaborative software design teams to have concurrent, real-time, multi-user access to models.

''There is no need for IT software developers to 'break up' and re-merge models to simulate sharing,'' noted John McHugh, director of product marketing, IT solutions, at Cayenne. ''While we will continue to support the traditional split/merge approach, Cayenne is now the first and only data modeling vendor to allow real-time, concurrent collaboration on software models at this level -- significantly speeding software development and boosting productivity by allowing all of the programmers to work on a model concurrently.'' McHugh also noted that the web-enabled nature of both BusinessTeam and DataTeam products allow companies to extend the model-sharing capabilities across the Internet, allowing a widely-dispersed audience to communicate and gain valuable consensus using simple web browsers.

He further noted that the software development process differs from company to company:

''Because there are many different ways of doing business, Cayenne does not provide a single tool or force a specific development life cycle. Cayenne provides different means to analyze business processes, design the systems, and implement the applications,'' McHugh said. ''However, one requirement that is common to all companies is the need for collaboration -- whether it is between the businesspeople and the development team or among the development team members. Cayenne is unique in its ability to provide this breadth and depth in both the object-oriented tools space and now with the BusinessTeam Suite of data-driven solutions.''

''Cayenne products continue to be essential to me for successful application requirements definition, business objectives translation into conceptual and logical designs, and relational database implementations. Using Cayenne tools, an enterprise can efficiently create complete, stable, and flexible information systems, while ensuring correlation of these systems with business needs and the enterprise as a whole. Cayenne has been my personal business partner for quite a while -- I would not be without them!'' said Scott Eveland, data architect at VF Services, Inc.

''BusinessTeam allows us to model our business needs and keep the physical implementations synchronized in a manner that provides effective and efficient realization of corporate goals,'' said Sameer Patel, director of information systems for The Prudential Insurance Company of America. ''Cayenne's solution met all of our expectations and proved to be the comprehensive product for all our data modeling needs.''

''I believe Cayenne's web-enabled products, in conjunction with their active repository, could provide our software developers with the means to truly collaborate and share information in real-time -- which, in today's fast-paced business environment, is the only practical way to develop mission critical systems,'' said John Kuoni, senior data analyst at MetLife.

As next generation tools, the new BusinessTeam will replace its predecessor, GroundWorks, and DataTeam will replace its predecessor, Terrain. Cayenne customers currently on maintenance will be able to upgrade to this next generation at no charge. The product will be generally available in July.
