i think for shorting -- it's more of hit n' run.. most investors "buy on dip".. thus, shorting shouldn't be used much more than 1-3 point plays. rarely do you see a stock go down 10-20 points in a *bottoming mkt?*..

shorting imo is useful when the stock is at it's peak and mkt is *starting to fall*... once mkt has fallen, covering shorts to take profits would be wise..

just my thoughts.
