Motorola Unveils Intel Pentium II Mobile Modules
Incorporated in First CompactPCI Single-Board
Computer

Advanced Platform Cuts Development Time and Enhances Performance
of Embedded Telecom, Computer Telephony, Wireless Infrastructure,
High-End Industrial Control Applications

TEMPE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 15, 1998-- Motorola Computer Group (MCG) Monday announced the first CompactPCI(R) Single Board Computer utilizing Intel Corporation's [Nasdaq:INTC - news] recently announced Intel(R) Pentium(R) II processor mobile module.

The CPV5300 addresses the growing demand in the telecommunications, computer telephony and high-end industrial control markets for higher performance embedded solutions that provide shortened product development cycles and longer product lifetimes.

It builds on the key features of the Pentium II processor mobile module--low power consumption, high-performance, low physical profile and long planned product life.

Integrating the widely accepted-open architecture of CompactPCI, Intel processors and Windows NT(R), Motorola's new product provides server level performance in a CompactPCI single board computer. Based on Intel's mobile module processors, the CPV5300 delivers high performance, low power, and life cycle management, backed by Motorola and Intel's commitment to the embedded marketplace.

''Motorola's CPV5300 delivers the next level in CompactPCI performance,'' said Wayne Sennett, corporate vice president and general manager of Technical Products Division at MCG. ''Motorola's ongoing commitment to CompactPCI and life-cycle management, together
with Intel's decision to support embedded markets makes it possible for us to address all the requirements necessary for the telecom, telephony and industrial control markets.''

Applications particularly suited for the CPV5300 include telecom central office and customer premises equipment, adjunct processors, voice and video communications, computer telephony, interactive voice response, wireless infrastructure and high-end industrial control.

In just two CompactPCI slots, the CPV5300 incorporates a 233 or 266 MHz Pentium II processor, 512K L2 cache, the high-performance 440BX chipset and up to 512MB of DIMM memory. The board includes an Ultra-SCSI interface, AGP video featuring the i740 graphics
accelerator with 8 MB video memory, and optional on-board flash, floppy and hard drives.

Also included is dual 10/100 Mbit 82559 Ethernet controllers with Alert--On--Lan technology
and network heartbeat and system monitoring of voltages, temperature, airflow and chassis status. Standard PC peripherals including dual serial ports, dual EIDE ports, parallel,
keyboard, mouse and floppy interfaces. All I/O is available through both the front panel and rear J4/J5 connectors.

''Our customers are demanding higher performance processors for embedded applications that can meet the needs of longer product life cycles,'' said Tom Franz, general manager of Intel's Embedded Microcomputer Division. ''That solution is now available with the Pentium II processor mobile module designed into Motorola's CompactPCI Single Board Computer.''

Pricing and Availability

The CPV5300 has a U.S. list price beginning at $2395 with samples available in August
1998.
