MU is 20 years old (Founded in 1978), INTC is twice as old (Founded in 1958 maybe 1959, in 1959 they sold their first planar transistor).

You are probably thinking of Fairchild Semiconductors, since you mentioned the planar transistor. Same cast of characters, though :-).

Intel was founded in 1968. Went public in 1971.

How many people remember that Intel nearly went down the tubes when their primary business was ... DRAM! :-)
