That seems to me to be a very reasonable scenario. There is certainly joint-venture activity going on in the financial arena. Maybe we'll see Intel or MO or some of the smaller specialty chipmakers in joint ventures. If so it will be a bullish sign for the sector and might precipitate a recovery sooner than we're expecting.

On the other hand, it's not going to do much about the loss of end-market in Asia for the chips themselves, but there's plenty enough demand for chips in other parts of the world to get this downturn in semi equipment prices at least up from where it is.
