Freeus: What I see today from reading news in the computer industry is a fast divergence between the cheapy computers and the full service industry systems, resulting from the many licensing/cross licensing . agreements now being made esp. between the big four and the the software companies or specialty chip providers. Major companies (banks, brokers, retailers) are saying they love the internet for advertising but are wary of are using it for actual sales or release of company specific data because of security reasons. They want the best security, or multi-level security arrangements The other desire is for high quality streaming video, best quality audio, Java action, dual use phone connections where you can place a voice order over the same phone being used for digital computer data. These will require more memory, higher capacity and faster hard drives, more specialty chips, faster more versatile modems, and esp. more software expense. And soon in the future is a doubling of the bus speeds using new CPU's Although the crystal ball is often cloudy, I believe the war in the cheapy under 1k or under 500 is not going the effect the prices of Dell's fully capable computers to the extent some bears are forecasting. And would it not be a blast to see Dell's margins increase as they did last quarter, because of the major decrease in cost of Asian-sourced components(gggg). Sig |
