Here is VLSI's announcement for the full text: vlsi.com

"Single chip solution: Integrates ARM processor, OAK+ DSP core, peripherals, Audio Codec, CDMA/AMPS modem, QCELP and EVRC vocodors."

Compare this to Qcom's MSM3000 chip: qualcomm.com

Neither are able to eliminate the RF chips and filters that sit between the antenna and the main control chip:
qualcomm.com

Neither bring us to the goal of a 1-chip phone. But, this isn't necessarily a bad thing. We need the isolation between the baseband processor "front end" and the processor/MSM to keep noise at a minimum.

This new chip from VLSI doesn't mention the other way cool features of the Qcom MSM3000: data rates greater than 64kbps, enhanced power savings (need more data to compare) and built-in voice recognition enabling stuff.

Perhaps Qcom should have a "Qualcomm MSM3000 Inside" campaign similar to Intel's.
