PRK is basically noninvasive. LASIK won't last as PRK techniques become more advanced, and "no-touch PRK" starts getting marketed.
PRK patients do NOT experience "extreme discomfort". Only a mild eyelash-in-the-eye sensation, thanks to soft contact lens worn 2-3 days post-op.
There are more myopes than hyperopes. IF you lump presbyopes in with hyperopes, then yes, there are more in that pool than myopes. And excimers won't do presbyopes.
Cost of excimer lasers will come down, now that Visx and Summit are raking in procedure royalty cash, and can sell equipment near cost ($200,000+) if they want to. Newer, mini-excimers coming out will be even cheaper to buy and use.
Keravision is nothing more than a dumb idea.
Again, LTK may prove to be superior to HPRK (and more likely H-LASIK) over time, but unless you're thinking only of all those old presbyopes out there, there will be competition for patients. |
