Hi Tommy D. You said: Everyone is reacting now like the Asia problem is something new but this all started close to 6 months ago. Should hopefully start getting some purchasing of Asian products and that will help.

IMHO The Asian problem "is" something new! Even though it started 6 months ago the impact on "balance sheets of NA companies" was forecasted for this quarter. It has now begun! Any progress in Asia would also not show for an additional 6 months!

I think we are in for a long slow painful year. Minerals will not recover, or show signs of recovery until LME reserves are depleted and mines are shutdown due to low commodity prices. Then when the production level falls far enough that LME reserves are barely keeping up to the demand, then we will see a slow turn around!

My prediction is that we will not see a sustainable recovery in base metals until 3rd quarter 1999. Copper will close out the year at best .75c, Nickel at $2.00 and Gold at $290.00

My opinion only, but I'm convinced enough that I am 95% Cash and have been for 2 months.
