Willy,

This was an anniversary show in which they had representatives from HBO/Showtime and several of the installation teams patting each other on the back for a job well done.

The key points that I took note of was that

A. All indications were that Echo IV testing would be successful irregardless of the solar panel deployment failure. 11 of the 16 high powered transponders are functional which is all that the FCC has allowed them to use anyway. This will add another 100 channels to the US mainland.

B. HDTV will work with all of the current receivers.

C. Hawaii and Alaska should come on line with Echo I gets moved.

Other than that, I did not hear any news about new channels and/or number of expected subs or promotions.

They did comment that their customer service center is understaffed and that they are overwhelmed with phone calls for the Superstation package fueled by Trekies and Love Boat fanatics who need UPN and would not get it otherwise. They are training and hiring as fast as they can. I noticed that the web site lets you order the Superstation package on-line. They should do that for all of their packages. Currently, if you call them and they are overwhelmed with calls, they will apologize and then hang-up on you without the option of waiting. This is BAD service to the nth degree. I understand their reasoning, but I think businesses have to bite the basic costs of customer service and answering the phone is extremely important.

They talked some more about their 2 dish locals. I am a happy 2-dish customer but I would like to know how many people they are signing up...I'm sure DirectTV and Primestar would like some info on that as well.

I saw the cost comparison for www.glav.com and the service that BretP used....one question...on a second and third receiver, the glav cost is alot higher than when you buy it new. Is this just a mis-print? Can you always get the 2nd receivers as cheap as the promotions?
