You made the same point I wanted to make--that is, I am sure the rest of the world looked at the US as a mess when we had hundreds of billions of bad loans in our S&L's. If only we could have known what would ensue in the next 8 years! THAT was a buying opportunity. Now, the situation differs in Japan in that they can't give the gift of a wide spread to their banks, but there are definitely ways to pull them out of their mess. I don't think the Japanese sky is falling.
