Alan, If I had a horde of rupples or yen and thought they were going to tank relative to the dollar, I would buy dollar denominated investments and profit on the decline of my currency. What would you buy denominated in Dollars if you were a very conservative Japanese mattress saver? Probably Disney, KO, Gillette, GE, etc. and US treasuries. All these will make our market go up due to increased demand for the stocks and more demand for treasuries thus lower interest rates. Maybe even some gold as holding steady in a dead investment sure beats seeing your yen go from 145/US Dollar to maybe 200 as some are suggesting...

Long term, there could be a global recession, but I would still expect these US investments to sink less that over inflated Asian investments.

just my 3 yen worth...
