Joe,

I use charts as a cross-reference.. my main investing tools are.

Inside Information (well not really.. never mind that one ;-) <G>)

Personal experience with the products/services offered and MY perceived demand for them, based on said experience and reserach amongst friends and collegues (you know, like "what do you think of the XX?")..

If it is a product, I then check with partners, resllers and distributors to see how it is moving, what kinda prices they are paying (and therefore I can guestimate margins and profits).

I use charts to look for technical things like bottoms. I won't use charts if I don't already like the company and haven't done the leg work ahead of time. I use charts to find entry and exit points and I am still learning. There is nothing magical about what I do and I don't apply anything overly fancy. Just take a gander and common-sense should be more than enough ;-).. (I'm not a TA guy who sits here all day and watches charts.. I belive charts are only useful for judging patterns, etc. and historical chart tendancies are of secondary importance to real world happenings).

The tools I trust least are:

Investor sentiment. What a crock of $hit.

Overpaid, under knowledgable and under skilled analysts (that means all of them)
