But there are other species on earth that have begun to exhibit cognitive thought, the great apes for example. They can be taught human sign language, exhibit the full range of emotions, etc.
Other species also show signs of cognitive thought: porpoises, dogs, and to some extent, pigs.
To be an atheist is just as dogmatic (and takes a leap of faith) as to be a deist. I prefer the position of agnostic until I see some definite proof one way or the other. I am convinced, though, that if there is a Creator, all the world's religions have got it wrong.
