yes, and then only @ about 12.5 Mbps... :)
actually... was thinking along the lines of those countries who already have or are close to having the infrastructure to support vdsl (fiber to the curb)... such as germany.. in which case the distance contraint is no longer such a limiting factor.
from communications week international 14 july, 1997:
"VDSL is particularly well suited for Deutsche Telecom because of the carrier's decentralized network architecture, which features short distances between a local exchange and customer premises. "We're never more than 500 meters away from 90% of our customers," said Stephan Heuser, DSL project manager at Deutsche Telecom..."
if this is the case for dt, and suspect it is, would expect (relatively) accelerated adoption of vdsl... and agree with supergekko that g.lite would not have quite the appeal from their perspective when options such as vdsl are feasible ... also would think with dt's emphasis on atm, vdsl would also be that much more appealing..
which is probably why dt is involved in (limited) vdsl trials now, siemens is making nice to orctf and bosch is cozying up to bbtk...
seem to remember you have a neighbor who works @ harris, any news on the harris/orctf silicon?
