Eric, Sure. From this point on, it's (IMO) going to be a tough pull to
.. rise above status quo. (I know Eric H.) I agree that BF did a great job a turning the ship. But, a lot of time was wasted too, even with the divestatures. I don't know what anyone else sees in these numbers, but I'll tell you what I see. That is, we are at square one, only this time, there is an 800 lb. gorilla in the way. Sooooooooo, we shall see, eh?
OK, Eric. My impression of the conference call.
1. Troop introduces everybody. 2. Young does about a 2-3 minute rendition on how he is pleased, etc. etc. General high-level commentary, and turns it over to Marengi.
3. Marengi recaps the year, but most of the emphasis is on 3rd and 4th Q's. Specifically, a run-down of all the product that has been released. Didn't dwell on the Q2 - Q3 200M charges for taking product out of the channel and the subsequent new JIT ordering processes, etc.
4. Margengi continues by indicating, we are now clear for a new start (my words, just paraphrasing as I am doing this acapella and off the top of my head here guy <G>), ... a new start, and the MAIN, MAIN focus is the INTER/INTRANET. How they have to be a player etc. He also indicated that it would take a series of Q's to achieve, ummm... enahnced value (my words again). He did say something to the effect of not expecting MAJOR spikes in share price each Q, but alluded to a more gradual upturn. To me it sounded like he was coached by Young. I don't know the man personally, and I'm sure he is everything we hear about him (Tough, Coast Guard Captain, etc.), but (this is where I opine <g>), I don't feel he is "ruthless", "take-no-prisoners" type. Well I like "ruthlessness" in business. Anyway, you asked about "services". No, I didn't hear that.
Eric, in short what I heard was someone reading the numbers, another one giving a "broad" statment of where the company was going, and the third person detailing what most, if not all of the people on this board have heard or read for the last six months.
Maybe Salah or someone else heard something different, or interpreted it differently. I certainly am ALWAYS open to critique <G>. God knows I give enough of it myself.
But, like I told jimA upthread, somehow I feel empty. I know, it cudda' been worse. And this is a start. (I'm probably gonna get jumped on all over, but I can take it <g>).
That's about it. I should send my phone bill into them, no? <smile>.
Regards,
Joe...<Eric, they need help against Wintel, they can't do it themselves>
PS: BTW, I was posting this when Paul was posting in the one right before this one. I never saw what he wrote until I submitted this.
Ironic isn't it? Paul takes a lot less time and words to say essentially what I said here.
