Not the first or last stupid thing ATT will do. Let's say they buy AOL for $25 billion. For that kind of money, why couldn't someone build a new AOL themselves.
From AOL's latest 10Q:
Property and equipment at cost, net $340,009,000

Then spend, say, $20,000,000,000 on promotion. Oh, yes, and spend 1 0r 2 billion to attract a few talented people.

That leaves a little change from the $25B.
