Ciena is, and Lucent is on the brink of, shipping the next generation of 40-80 channel devices. Their market consists of the bandwidth suppliers, not users. It doesn't appear MRV is targeting this area. There are smaller companies I don't follow which manufacture smaller scale WDM products.

I have no doubt that the company I've watched since mid 1994 grow FY revenue from $30M to over $.25G, WHILE BRINGING EARNINGS GROWTH ALONG, is extremely capable of targeting products to this market. That's why I'm furious that MRV's release said virtually nothing. It could be a very significant product addition for them.

Note the reaction to the offering halt? It was clear there'd be trouble when we heard rumblings from parties who were included in what was essentially a huge private placement. The boys still don't understand the markets.

On the other hand, I believe they will still continue to add value to this company, unlike the self-inflicted mess at COMS. My perception is that they are wise enough to know when to sell, and are ready to when they reach a point of diminishing returns. I don't think that day has arrived; there's likely more growth ahead which would be more apparent if they weren't oblivious putzes. In any case, I'd guess they expand the company another stage or 2, then get a premium buyout. There are buyers out there.
