Osprey, found this comment on doing business with the Chinese from a poster on marketbrief.com, an eye opener for sure, it sounds like even communists are captialists in modern day China:

This is not my own personal opinion, because I have no intimate knowledge of Chinese business tactics, but for those trading in companies doing business there, it would be prudent to find out if its accurate.

Excerpt from marketbrief.com:

Speaking of Nortel...I have a friend who was brought up in China, he's caucasian but speaks fluent Chinese and is in upper executive management with Nortel in their Beijing offices. He was telling me what it's like doing business in that country. They NEVER go to any kind of business meeting without pocketfuls of cash...ie bribery money. Nothing can be done without it. Even then it's not a guarantee...whoever pays the most gets what they want. He, needless to say, finds it totally frustrating trying to do his job when everything is either delayed, in limbo or just not completed while you wait for a bribed Chinese official to ok whatever your waiting for.
