Ann:

I agree with you -- to a point. When the authority of the State supercedes the rights of the parents, however, when no clear evidence or proof exists of any substantive physical child abuse, then any actions by the State are abusive and ethically and Constitutionally illegal -- no matter what 'law' political power seekers pushed onto the books.

Having families broken up and parents fighting the State for months or years to regain custody of their child or children (who in the meantime is a ward of the State living in a public facility or being shunted around to different foster parents) because of hearsay or circumstantial evidence is wrong. Yet this pattern is being repeated more and more.

In one laughable case, the police and an army of social workers broke into a house (with warrants) demanding a couple turn over their kids. Neighbors had reported the couple because they thought they heard children screaming in pain. Turns out the neighbors were wrong -- the couple didn't even have kids. But the husband was arrested anyway and spent almost a week in jail before he was able to prove to those fools they didn't even have kids!

It is too bad the parents in those situations cannot seek redress by pressing civil and criminal charges against the social workers and government sponsored agencies responsible for the modern-day witch hunt tactics.
