Yes, Summit's initial strategy was a disaster, but only because Summit was both selling to doctors and competing with them. If Summit/Visx decided to set up their own centers, and not sell to doctors, then there would be no competition with customers, and doctors in theory would have no choice but to work in Summit/Visx centers.

But that's irrelevant now.
