Ann:

Do not accept the "inconvenience" of one's rights being violated on the assumption that another's rights *may* be violated -- only if PROVEN violated. Without absolute proof it is a very dangerous precedent to set indeed!

Different States define abuse differently as well.

Do you define abuse as a parent or parents screaming at a kid constantly, or underfeeding a kid, mocking, laughing at and belittling a kid consistently?

How about slapping on the hand? Spanking on the butt? A swat on the rear? A punishment where they cannot see their friends for a month? No television for a year? Taking their kid out of school (as a punishment) and have a private tutor teach them at home? Denying them the ability to socialize with other kids or have any friends? Take one of their possessions away every time they do something wrong until they have only one set of clothes left, a bowl and spoon to eat all their food from, and a mattress on the floor of their bedroom?

How do you define abuse. How do you define when a parent has crossed the line?

Could it be that we have a society of spoiled brats today because the old American adage of "spoil the rod and spare the child" has been vilified by legions of psychotherapists who may turn out to be wrong?
