<Hanby Environmental Procedures Demonstrates Technology in White House Conference Center
WIMBERLEY, Texas, June 1 -/E-Wire/-- On 5/29/98 in the White House Conference Center, John Hanby, of Hanby Environmental Procedures, Wimberley, Texas, Leeward Bean, Ocean Optics, and Dr. John Hiller, Lockheed Martin, demonstrated a technology developed by H.E.L.P., Inc. to the Interagency Environmental Technology Office (IETO).
The new technology forms large, colored molecules out of normally colorless chemicals such as benzene and toluene, which are components of gasoline and other fuels. This 'colorful' method of contamination detection is published by the U.S. EPA as a field technique.
In 1996, Hanby's spectrometer, which utilizes the spectral 'fingerprint' of the colors produced by the technique was recognized by the DOC's Rapid Commercialization Initiative as one of the ten best new environmental developments in the United States. The purpose of the test kits is to provide immediate information about the contamination caused by leaking fuel tanks, pipelines, etc. Often, this vital information is not available for days to emergency clean-up personnel.
