I am finally back from Comdex. So many people and products. The big thing was Windows CE and the Internet. No surprise! Couldn't get a phone line out on my Cellphone or hotel to save my life. I was staying at the Hilton and I think everyone must have been trying to call at the same time.
Even though NCI was not exhibiting they seem to be in a lot of places. I did not see them personally in the Hitachi booth, but I heard that one of the NCI people was exhibiting the Mobile Office on there new Micro PC that uses Windows CE. I did see in the Microsoft Partners booth that NCI was listed as a developer partner. I did ask a staffer and they said that the developers contribute code to the operating system development in areas where MS is not proficient. Maybe we are doing the sound for it?
A lot of people I talked to saw the NCI TV commercials and advertisements flying into Las Vegas. I think it really helped the name recognition.
The exciting news is that I heard from an analyst friend that NCI showed an incredible new voice recorder at the SanDisk party on Wednesday night. He said it was very ergonomic and looked to be made of titanium. He said it looked like one of those new cameras that have a metallic finish. He said the unit was absolutely beautiful and looked to be the size of a small cellular telephone and had a large digital display. The new recorder was said to use the new Compact Flash, but my friend said they were showing a super miniature hard disk that plugged in where the Compact Flash went that would record over 30 hours. He also said that the NCI people spent most of the evening with the head of Philips, San Disk and HP.
I talked to IOmega about the N.Hand 20 MB media and drive. I asked him about NCI and he confirmed that they are developing a couple of products that will use the N.Hand and Zip cartridges. He did not tell me what they were exactly, but did say they were for voice and sound recording.
I will be leaving AOL in January. I signed up for a service, while at Comdex, called Earthlink. It is $19.95 per month for unlimited time on the Internet. It includes a free web site, Netscape and E-Mail. I send a lot of big code files and AOL has been a problem. The demonstration of this product was very cool. Until 1/1/97 there is no setup fee, so it is really a better deal than AOL.

Been watching all of the stuff about NCI and Root. He ran a company called Maxoptix in Fremont CA. He was CEO. It is a company that makes erasable optical disk drives. It is about $80 million and is alive and well. There website is http//www.maxoptix.com. He was exec VP of Maxtor, $1+Billion who owned Maxoptix. He sold Maxoptix to Kubota for Maxtor and was a big part of selling Maxtor to Hyundai. I know because I worked at Maxtor.
I am new to NCI Stock. Bought at about $1.50 average when Root joined the company. I bought because I am looking for a long return, not short swings. This is a product of the future not today. It must hit critical acceptance before it really grows.
As for the NCI stock price, it is where it should be. About the same as Voice Power and Voice It. All of the past was typical smoke that Woody Norris used to get our attention. He is a stock brokers delight. Is that what the game is? Are we only investing in how good a CEO is as a salesman or the future potential for the company. Woody Norris is a master of bullshit, everyone knows that. Nothing he has ever said has come true. For those of you who bought Norris for $3.XX a share when the book value was $0.00 shame on you. You should be happy that the four or five events that would have put NCI in Chapter 11 were circumvented. Trust me, that would have really trashed our investment. What I don't understand is that if you spend five minutes looking at the company 10Qs you will see that it had been in terrible shape. Now the balance sheet is clean. If you had run a business, you would realize that you have to clean up the BS and get the products out before it will turn-around. We also all know that the Flashback didn't really work until the new model came out a couple of months ago.
I am not defending Root. I don't know the ins and outs of what has gone on day-to day at our company. What I do know is that when NCI was Norris, it was in the worst shape I have ever seen a company to be in and every bit of information was bullshit. Frankly, that is why I bought it. I for one appreciate that they have gotten the finally products out and that we have Sanyo. If Burton is right and another OEM signs on soon, it will only be the start.
I am speaking out because I know it takes a couple of years to turn around a company. Even longer when you have to work with a bullshit factory like Norris. If we do not support the team now, the one thing for sure is that our investment will die. Let's get behind the team and stop supporting rumor mongers who are probably shorting our stock and making money on our dreams for the company. We are the ones hurting the stock price , because the law won't let the company speak out. Think about that! |
