Zalesky, Intel has admitted failure of the slot one and now has announced a pin grid array, "like socket 7" for their lower priced line of celerons. They could just as easily used socket 7 but I suspect they did not want to eat that much crow.
It is quite possible for a dual motherboard to emerge, unless Intel makes that impossible to design. The celeeron in a slot 1 was totally unable to compete with the AMD offering(and IBM/Cyrix et al) so this is their retreat position. Make it incompatible with socket 7 and force the OEMs to buy it.... Faliure as the socket 7 works well and takes all the 233 and up chips. To make this go they would have to kill their own MMX line(stop making them) before this gets running. If they are wrong they will hand the total low end share to AMD/Cyrix.
