Gene - Re: Mendocino Packaging

Intel will be offering the Mendocino version of Celeron in BOTH a Slot 1 configuration and a PGA package - with a different socket than a Pentium MMX (Socket 7) because the Celeron/P6 bus is completely different from the Pentium bus.

Intel will be offering the Mendocino in the Slot 1 package first, ahead of the PGA package. This will permit customers to use current motherboards - Pentium II but with a slightly different plastic retaining housing - to secure the bare Celeron board.

The cheaper PGA version of Mendocino will be offered second, and will be targeted at new motherboards, designed for even lower cost.
