It is WOW! that is being closed, not CompuServe. AOL is also shutting down GNN and word is (TipWorld) that GNN members are not going to AOL.

Excite hype only masks another of AOL's failed investments, Webcrawler. Yesterday's IBD had an article about how the gullible have been lured by AOL's financial hype. The hype is needed because AOL is burning cash at an increasing clip and must go to the capital markets soon for another cash fix. If they do try another dilutive ( to losses!) equity placement, watch for the mother of all AOL hype frenzies, followed by a tank in stock price ala Iomega.

AOL is a company which never made a real profit and has little prospect to do so in the future. It is vastly overvalued given its SLOWING growth rate, which even 50 hr freebies cannot mask.
