Today's press release about the Phase 2 SBIR Contract with the U.S. Air Force has some powerful implications for other industrial applications as well. A display equivalent to a 3-by-3 bank of 17-inch computer monitors could find widespread use in the architectural and engineering community. I must tell you what took place today: Our engineering department had a meeting (today) to discuss how to review and revise full size drawings on the computer - commonly called computerized drafting or "CADD". After a lengthy discussion about software that would allow a person to view in full size our large 36"x48" building plans it was decided that the software is often too generic and difficult to configure for our specific engineering use. The discussion then turned to large flat panel screens, we all agreed - much too expensive for any serious consideration. We were at a impasse, how can we view full size drawings on a monitor? After the meeting, I read today's press release - BINGO! With the new "60 degree field-of-view, light-weight eyewear display system!" The future use of the VRD in our office has been widely accepted, as long as the price is competitive with the computer monitor. This is a VRD application just begging to be filled, and the market potential for this application alone must be enormous. GO MVIS!!! There are many of us who desperately need this technology! Jan
