I think the best combination for PDAs is a pen AND voice interface. Intel has a chip named StrongArm which is designed to support those kind of application. What is needed though is a voice recognition engine that encompasses the limitations that today's HMM technology has, i.e. lack of speaker independence, noise sensitivity, lack of natural language understanding capabilities and lack of scalability.

Yes, I also do agree that this will be coming and most probably it will first be launched in a vertical market before it will become a mass market product. My best guess is that within the next 12 months we should hear something in this respect.
